Welcome Baby Christopher

What a difference a week makes!  Last week at this time, I was very sick with worry about three of our best friends from Jacksonville, Jenny, Shane and new baby Christopher.  The birth of Christopher was full of complications and the little guy and his Mom gave all of us quite a scare.  Thankfully, all are doing well these days.

I wanted to share with all of you a little about “best laid plans" and photo sessions.  When I scheduled newborn sessions, it never crosses my mind that there may be complications.  Usually, I explain to my clients that we’ll “wing it” for their session (regarding location in the client's home, clothing, etc.) because the little people often have their own ideas about the world at the ripe age of 5 or 6 days old.   In my experience, it’s very rare that I’m able to do any of what I planned…being flexible and going with the flow of the session produces better images than I could possible dream up.    This brings me to baby Christopher.  I had booked my plane flight to Jacksonville months ago.  The joke between Jenny and I was that she was going to be pregnant/overdue until I arrive and I’d photograph the birth.  Every single idea I had dreamed up for him changed when I got the phone call that he was in the NICU and I would only be able to photograph him there.  Luckily, by the time I arrived at the hospital, he was only attached to a heart monitor.  I want to share a couple of the photos of the set-up with all of you.  Parents often try to warn me about the small spaces in their homes…these photos will give you an idea of just how much room I need…not much at all...and what we can do in small spaces.

This photo makes me smile.  I love it and want to title it, "GOOD hair day!"

A few of the setup to show how tight it was.

Had I not shown you the set-up, I'd bet you'd have never guessed where this photo was taken.

Moms are great to use to pose the baby!

Mom soothing Christopher.  He was a great baby model except for this one photo.  I love a good crying photo!

Meet Christopher Lance.  I'll miss you little buddy!  Come to Ohio soon.
