Mason's All Star Benefit
The third annual Mason's All-Star Benefit softball game is Saturday, Aug. 30, at Akron's Firestone Stadium, with the first pitch at 4 p.m. The charity game is between doctors and nurses on Akron Children's Hospital's PICU (pediatric intensive care unit) team and members of the Akron Police Department (Michael Williams is a police officer).
A cookout — ribs and chicken, homemade macaroni and cheese and lots of goodies for the kids — and a silent auction will follow at the Fraternal Order of Police lodge.

WPC Golf Invitational
The Fifth Annual Westminster Presbyterian Church (WPC) Invitational Golf Outing will be held Friday, September 12th at the Rosemont Country Club at 3777 Rosemont Boulevard in Fairlawn. The invitational begins at 11 a.m. with registration and includes lunch, a scramble, silent auction and dinner.
Over the past four years, the event has raised nearly $100,000 for Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service’s (VNS) children’s bereavement camp, called Camp Promise; and the local, national and international outreach programs of WPC. Camp Promise is an annual camp dedicated to counseling children who are suffering from the loss of a loved one. Largely through community donations, counselors are given the opportunity to work with young children to help ease the grieving process. The WPC outreach programs have benefited local charities such as YMCA, Mobile Meals and Good Neighbors. On the national and international levels, financial assistance has been provided to programs such as One Child at a Time, Sudan Christian Community Center and to victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Please call the Hospice of VNS Care Center at 330-665-1455 or 800-335-1455 if you would like to register, be a sponsor, or donate an item to the silent auction.

Andy Marks Update (from a few blog posts ago)
This excerpt was stolen from his online journal written by his wife:
Andy is amazing!! Here we are on Saturday night getting ready to pick up Chinese for dinner. Andy is getting settled in the kitchen, and "Big Gee" and I have just put both kids down for the night. Gina came for a pre-planned visit this weekend - unfortunately, her daughter Toni was supposed to come as well, but we had to postpone her visit for awhile until Andy gets a little less immuno-supressed. Needless to say, it has been great having a member of my "core group" here for a few days.
We head back to Mayo a few times next week for some more blood work, along with an ultrasound and a cholangiogram. If all goes well with both, hopefully Andy will have his biliary drain removed.
It's hard to tell by looking at him, that he had such major surgery just 2 weeks ago. He is truly amazing.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
Caroline
